extraordinary revenue is expected to yield 56,709,983 or

$987 more than was expected. Moreover a saving of $348,250

is anticipated on the total expenditure for the current

year which was originally estimated at $6,781,166. These

estimates if realized will result in a credit balance on

the 31st. December, 1909, of $349,237, (irrespective of

the sums realised by the new Liquor Duties) which added to

the balance of Assets accrued on 31st. December, 1908, wil?

give a balance of Assets on the 31st. December, 1909, in-

-creased to $1,422,278.

5.

The Estimates of Revenue for 1910

disclose no material change in the general position of the

revenue, chiefly because it has been possible to replace

the sum of $412,300, which was provided in the current

year by the fortuitous appropriation of the Widows' and

Orphans' Fund, by the imposition of duties on intoxicating

liquors.

6.

The footnotes and appendix to the

Estimates of Expenditure explain every item of an unusual

nature comprised therein as well as the differences under

subheads, and my remarks to the Council deal with the

programme for Public Works.
